When and where do you meet?
- Sunday school classes for 7th-12th grades meet at the Lighthouse, right across the street from the church, at 9:15am.
- On Sunday night, students meet at the Lighthouse at 6pm for Bible Study. We are done by 7pm.
- Wednesday night schedule: The lighthouse is open at 5pm for a time of fellowship and fun. We have snacks available for the students. The last Wednesday of every month we have a full meal for them.

How do you reach students?
Our goal in student ministry is to help students come to know Jesus as Lord. We strive to help our students grow in His grace and knowledge while making him known to the world.
The student ministry at FBC Kentwood filters the entirety of its programming through a simple and effective filter: Know. Own. Known.
Know: Help students to know their faith.
Own: Help students to own their faith.
Known: Help students to make their faith known.
We envision students coming to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior by hearing the gospel preached and engaging with them in life. We want students to own their faith by growing through small groups, Bible Studies, and other activities. Students, in return, are able to share their faith with confidence with their family and friends.
To establish this vision of student ministry in the local church, we like to use Robby Gallaty’s strategy. In his book Rediscovering Discipleship, he lays out the four-step process that Jesus used to minister to his disciples. “First, Jesus ministered and the disciples watched him (Matthew 5-7). Second, Jesus allowed the disciples to assist him in ministry (John 6:1-13). Third, the disciples did the ministry themselves with Jesus’ assistance (Mark 9:17-29). Finally, Jesus watched as the disciples ministered to others (Luke 10:17)” (pg 36).

I’m a parent…
First, thank you for trusting us with your students. Our goal and mission is to minister to your family.
We understand that we only have your student for about 4 hours a week. The other 164 hours depend on you as a parent. You as the parent are the primary spiritual influence in your student’s life. Our goal is to come alongside you to assist in the discipling process of your student. We do this by being a resource and helping you become equipped for the role of discipleship. This is done through Sunday school, small group Bible studies, and parent meetings where we have open discussions with parents about issues regarding their students.
We also understand that communication is important to parents. We have multiple ways that we communicate our information: by mail, text message, announcements in church, the Remind app, and Facebook. We want to ensure that every parent is informed about upcoming dates and important information.
